Downloading, Uploading and Installing

It’s easy to be confused on the differences, so here they are:

Downloading – means to move a file that’s on the Internet onto your computer. Downloading is usually made quite simple as the user is prompted to click a download link on whatever website they are downloading from, and prompted to save it to their computer.

Uploading – the opposite of downloading, it means you are sending a file from your computer onto the Internet or a network. Think putting something onto a webpage, that would be uploading.

Installing – sometimes confused with uploading, installing means you put the program (which you could have downloaded for example), onto your own computer so you can use it.  You may have downloaded a program, but unless you take the steps of installing it, it wont be ready for use. You will generally be guided by prompts known as a wizard, to help you through the process.
